The Committee of the Rada did not support the resignation of Malyuk: what will happen to the head of the SBU

According to ТСН: The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence discussed the proposal of the President of Ukraine to dismiss the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk, but did not gather enough votes to support this decision.

Details of the voting in the committee

According to the information from a deputy, the votes of the committee members were distributed as follows:

  • For the dismissal — 7 committee members;

  • Against — 6;

  • Abstained — 2.

Thus, supporters of the resignation did not achieve a majority (7 to 8), and the decision was not adopted.

What this means for the further procedure

The deputy explained that, despite the lack of a recommendation from the relevant committee, the issue can still be brought to the floor of the session hall.

"This does not significantly hinder bringing it to the floor. It just means that the committee does not recommend it for consideration. But this will not prevent bringing the resolution for voting, where 226+ votes will need to be gathered,"

the deputy noted. He also expressed doubts about the possibility of successful voting in the parliament, noting that currently, the necessary number of votes for the resignation of Vasyl Malyuk will probably not be available.

What is known about the dismissal of Vasyl Malyuk

According to sources, there was a tense discussion between Zelensky and Malyuk due to the general's reluctance to leave his position voluntarily, which led to the threat of official dismissal.

The head of the SBU explained his position by stating that several important operations are currently ongoing, and leaving them at this moment would be impractical. At the same time, he emphasized that if the president insists, this issue should be handed over to the Verkhovna Rada for the adoption of the appropriate decision.

Later, Vasyl Malyuk announced that he is resigning. He expressed his intention to remain in the SBU system to "carry out asymmetrical special operations of world-class."

The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, presented Zelensky's official proposal for Malyuk's dismissal. The issue of changing the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine was handed over to the legislative process, and the relevant document was registered in the parliament.

The decision regarding the dismissal of Vasyl Malyuk remains on the table of the Verkhovna Rada, despite the lack of support from the committee. This issue is of interest to both the deputies and the public, as the activities of the SBU are key to Ukraine's national security in the face of current challenges.
