Akmetov allocated another 600 million to the defenders of Mariupol: the project extended until 2026

According to ТСН: The founder of the organization Rinat Akmetov allocated about 600 million UAH to support the defenders of Mariupol and their families.

Support for Defenders

In three years of the project 'Heart of Azovstal', 1.6 billion hryvnias have been allocated to assist the defenders. This initiative was created for comprehensive support for the defenders of Mariupol and their families.

The initiative covers several main areas of assistance, including:

  • treatment and rehabilitation;
  • psychological assistance;
  • prosthetics;
  • housing issues;
  • education;
  • support after returning from captivity.

Support is provided to all units of the 'Mariupol' garrison, including the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, and other military formations.

Return from Captivity

The process of returning Ukrainian defenders from captivity continues. For many, this is just the beginning of a long journey that requires time, strength, and help for treatment, recovery, and adaptation to civilian life.

Considering these challenges, Akmetov made the decision to extend the support program into 2026, additionally allocating about 600 million hryvnias.

“I made the decision to continue the work of the project 'Heart of Azovstal' in 2026 because our responsibility to the defenders of Mariupol has no statute of limitations. Not all of them have returned home, and not all have gone through their recovery path. Many of our warriors are still in captivity, and their families continue to wait and live in hope. And as long as there are those who need our support, treatment, and help to return to civilian life — 'Heart of Azovstal' will be there. It is our duty and our endless gratitude for their feat accomplished in the name of freedom and independence of Ukraine,” said Rinat Akmetov.

Areas of Support in 2026

In 2026, the 'Heart of Azovstal' project will focus on supporting military personnel returning from captivity, starting on January 1, 2025, providing a full range of assistance considering individual needs and stages of recovery. Those who returned earlier can also apply for assistance until December 31, 2025.

The project will also continue to emphasize post-traumatic growth, community support for defenders and their families, and preserving the memory of the defense of Mariupol, particularly within the framework of project M86.

Starting from 2026, 'Heart of Azovstal' will continue cooperation with the Rinat Akmetov Foundation, combining resources and expertise for further support of the defenders of Mariupol and their families.

This project continues to be an important initiative in the context of the war in Ukraine, providing not only financial support but also essential psychological and social assistance for those who have given their strength for the sake of the country. Further support will ensure the necessary conditions for the adaptation of former military personnel to peaceful life and help their families restore normalcy in difficult times.
