Attack on Kharkiv: consequences of missile strikes

According to TSN.ua: During the night, Russian forces launched missile strikes on Kharkiv, resulting in large-scale power outages and damage to civilian infrastructure. Explosions rang out in the Industrial District, injuring a guard of an educational institution and a 78-year-old man. At least 16 residential buildings were damaged, including roofs being destroyed and windows blown out.

Situation in the city and region

The situation in Kharkiv and the region is complicated by serious power supply interruptions. Although power supply in Kharkiv has been restored, network restrictions are in place. According to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov,

“We have 16 buildings that have been damaged. These are roofs, blown-out windows. Our utilities are currently working to quickly close up the structures due to the very low air temperature.”

Additionally, due to damage to energy infrastructure, the movement of metro trains on the Saltivska and Oleksiivska lines has stopped. As noted by the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleg Synegubov,

“Our energy sector was under fire. There are quite serious damages. All teams are currently working on site to rapidly eliminate the consequences.”

The situation in the city remains tense as utility services continue to work on eliminating the consequences of the attack, while residents try to ensure their warmth in low temperatures.

This attack highlights the ongoing threats to the civilian population in Ukraine, especially in winter conditions when temperatures drop. Restoration of infrastructure and provision of electricity remain critically important, as they depend not only on comfort but also on the safety of residents. Such situations require efforts from local authorities and services for a quick response to the consequences of attacks and to ensure stability in the region.
