Russian Strike Targets 'Druzhba' Oil Pipeline in Brody: Key Details and Impact.
Russian Forces Strike 'Druzhba' Oil Pipeline in Western Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: On January 27, 2026, Russian military forces launched an attack on infrastructure in Brody, located in the Lviv region, which resulted in a significant fire. This incident marks the 15th targeted assault on facilities belonging to the Naftogaz Group since the beginning of January. Notably, this is believed to be the first time the attack has directly impacted infrastructure associated with the 'Druzhba' oil pipeline. In response, local authorities have advised residents to limit time spent outdoors and have shifted school instruction to remote learning.
Following the attack, monitoring in Brody detected minor exceedances in the concentrations of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and soot. However, according to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, these elevated levels do not pose a threat to public health. He further stated that the situation is under control and that radiation levels remain normal.
On-Scene Response and Official Guidance
Emergency responders from the State Emergency Service (DSNS) are working at the site to extinguish the fire and manage the aftermath. Due to the ongoing situation, educational institutions have moved to distance learning for January 27-28. Local officials have also issued safety recommendations for residents during the fire and resulting smoke:
- Keep windows and doors tightly closed;
- Avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary;
- Use a damp mask or respirator if you must go out.
No casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the attack. The regional situation remains under the control of the relevant services.
This strike is part of a broader Russian strategy to destabilize Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure, which is vital for the country's economy and security. The 'Druzhba' pipeline is a major conduit for transporting oil to Europe, and damage to it could potentially affect regional energy supplies. Given the increasing frequency of attacks on energy targets, monitoring the situation's development and Ukraine's response remains crucial for regional stability.
