Russian Attack Cuts Power to Chernihiv Region Villages, Halting Repair Efforts.
The State of Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure
According to TSN.ua: A Russian strike damaged an energy facility in the Korop district of Chernihiv Oblast, leaving a number of settlements without electricity. Repair crews will not begin restoration work on the damaged site until the security situation in the region improves.
Separately, overnight drone attacks by Russian forces targeted southern districts of Odesa Oblast, damaging another piece of critical energy infrastructure. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from this attack.
"There is not a single undamaged power plant left in Ukraine," - Denys Shmyhal.
The most critical power supply shortages are currently being experienced in:
- Kyiv
- Kyiv Oblast
- Odesa Oblast
- Frontline communities
These incidents underscore the dire state of Ukraine's energy grid, which continues to suffer from systematic Russian bombardment. The ongoing war has made restoring power a matter of urgent humanitarian necessity, as blackouts severely impact civilian life. Authorities stress that safety concerns must be prioritized, which inevitably slows the pace of infrastructure repairs. Russia's campaign against energy targets has been a consistent feature of its invasion, aiming to cripple the country during the harsh winter months.
