According to ТСН: Advisor to the President of Romania Eugen Tomac stated that Bucharest is open to discussing a possible unification with Moldova if Chisinau considers it a realistic step.

Tomac emphasized this in an interview with CaleaEuropeană:

“Romania is ready to sit at the negotiating table at any moment and seriously discuss this scenario, only if the Republic of Moldova considers it as an option”.

He also noted that Romania's official position on unification with Moldova has remained unchanged since March 27, 2018, when the parliament passed the respective statement unanimously. Tomac stressed the common goal of both countries - speeding up Moldova's European integration and the importance of conducting dialogue in “extremely responsible and serious tones”.

Moreover, earlier, the President of Moldova Maia Sandu supported the idea of unification with Romania, but only on the condition of a positive outcome in a nationwide referendum.

Sandu emphasized:

“Look at what is happening today around Moldova. A small country like Moldova is finding it increasingly difficult to survive as a democracy, as a sovereign country, and certainly to resist Russia”.

The discussion of a possible unification between Romania and Moldova underscores the relevance of issues regarding European integration in the region. An analysis of the current challenges faced by Moldova indicates the necessity of closer cooperation with neighbors, as the political and economic stability of the region may depend on these efforts.

The situation around Moldova has become an important topic in international relations, leading to the activation of dialogue at the highest level and the possible formation of new alliances in response to external threats.
