In Chernivtsi, a teacher was fired for offending a student over the Ukrainian language.
According to ТСН: In Chernivtsi, at Lyceum No. 5 'Oriana', a geography teacher was fired due to her communication in Russian and for insulting a student who asked her to switch to Ukrainian. The teacher called him 'a beast'.
This was reported by the director of the lyceum, Halyna Abram'iuk, noting that the decision was made following a service investigation.
'On Monday, December 1, the commission of the service investigation completed its work and drafted the relevant act. The teacher wrote a statement, and I issued an order for her dismissal,' the director said.
Last week, a video appeared on social media showing the teacher communicating in Russian during the lesson. One of the students suggested switching to Ukrainian, after which the teacher not only insulted him but also threatened that now he would be the one answering most frequently in class.
The students wrote a statement to the director, after which the teacher was suspended from class responsibilities, and a service investigation was initiated.
A similar case in Kyiv
It is noted that a language scandal also occurred in Kyiv involving a teacher who communicated in Russian with students and urged them to understand that there are new teachers in the school — a married man and a 'young girl'.
This case in Chernivtsi has become a topic of discussion in society, highlighting the importance of language policy in educational institutions. The transition to the Ukrainian language in schools remains a relevant issue, and the reactions of the administrations of such institutions as 'Oriana' indicate a growing emphasis on adherence to language norms.
