Crimea Raid: Ukrainian Intelligence Knocks Out Russian Air Defenses and Destroys Boats.
Ukrainian Intelligence Operations in Crimea
According to TSN.ua: Throughout March 2023, a special unit of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (HUR), known as 'Ghosts,' carried out a series of successful missions targeting Russian military infrastructure in the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. These operations systematically disabled components of Russia's air defense network, marking a major step in degrading enemy combat capabilities in the region.
Key Achievements of the 'Ghosts' Unit
One of the unit's primary accomplishments was striking a Russian 'Valdai' radar station. In addition, the missions resulted in the destruction or neutralization of:
- an electronic warfare station;
- a relay station for 'Geran' type drones;
- a component of the GLONASS navigation system.
These actions significantly weaken Russian forces' operational capabilities in the area.
Furthermore, during these operations, two Project BK-16 high-speed landing craft were hit. In recent days, special operations forces also destroyed a Russian missile system command post in Crimea. The strikes eliminated missile control centers, concealed air defense systems, and an ammunition depot. These successes highlight the effectiveness of Ukrainian intelligence in executing strategic tasks within occupied territories.
The operations conducted by Ukrainian intelligence demonstrate an intensification of military activity in the region, which could substantially shift the balance of power in Crimea. By destroying key Russian military assets, these actions complicate Moscow's ability to conduct combat operations and secure its forces. They also underscore the critical role of reconnaissance in modern conflicts and may lay the groundwork for further strategic moves by Ukraine as part of its defense policy.
