The Resurgence of Classic Names

According to TSN.ua: According to a study by Crystal Care Collection, which analyzed data from the Office for National Statistics, old-fashioned names are regaining popularity among new parents. By comparing the top 100 names from 1924 with those from 2024, researchers identified a clear trend: several once-forgotten names have climbed back into the top 25.

Shifts in Naming Trends

In 2024, all ten names that had previously fallen out of favor have now re-entered the top 25. Among girls’ names, the biggest jumps were:

  • Lily – from 47th place in 1924 to 3rd in 2024
  • Ivy – from 32nd to 5th
  • Florence – from 23rd to 6th
  • Elsie – from 17th to 10th
  • Evelyn – from 35th to 20th

Boys’ names also saw notable increases:

  • Arthur – from 9th to 4th
  • George – dropped from 3rd to 6th
  • Henry – rose from 24th to 14th
  • Harry – from 30th to 20th
  • Jack – from 33rd to 22nd

These shifts highlight a return to traditional names that were once widely used, now re-emerging as fresh choices in modern society.

The findings suggest that parents are increasingly drawn to historical names, perhaps seeking a connection to the past or wanting to give their children a sense of uniqueness. This revival of vintage names may also reflect broader cultural trends that emphasize heritage and timeless values. It’s likely that this pattern will continue, potentially shaping future naming fashions for newborns.
