Ukraine's Military Contract Service to See Major Reforms in 2026: New Bonuses and Age Limits.
New Rules for Signing Military Service Contracts
According to TSN.ua: Starting in 2026, new regulations will take effect for individuals signing their first military service contract, including the introduction of a one-time bonus. The amount of this bonus will vary according to the recruit's rank:
- For privates – 26,624 UAH,
- For sergeants and petty officers – 29,952 UAH,
- For officers – 33,280 UAH.
These changes aim to improve conditions for new military personnel. The reforms are part of broader efforts to modernize Ukraine's armed forces amid ongoing national defense needs.
Revised Contract Signing Conditions
Under the new rules, contracts can be signed not only by Ukrainian citizens but also by foreigners or stateless persons who have reached 18 years of age. A significant change is that men aged 60 and older are now officially permitted to sign contracts for army service.
"According to this decree, men aged 60 and over will be able to officially sign contracts for service in the army,"stated President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Ministry of Defence reported that these amendments to military service regulations will help attract a larger pool of candidates to the army, which could positively impact the country's defense capabilities. Opening service to foreigners and older individuals may provide new opportunities for the military, enhancing its effectiveness and readiness. These measures also carry a social dimension by offering economic support to new recruits through the one-time payments.
The new contract rules reflect the state's drive to modernize military structures and recruit new personnel, a pressing concern given current security challenges.
