A fire starter of a post office has been detained in Kyiv: he acted on the instructions of a fake law enforcement officer

According to ТСН: In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a man who set fire to a post office in the Desnyansky district under the instructions of a fake law enforcement officer. The incident occurred when a resident of Zhytomyr, under the influence of phone threats, agreed to commit a crime on behalf of an unknown person.

According to the investigation, the suspect is a 25-year-old resident of Zhytomyr who came to the capital to work and was employed as a car mechanic.

Execution of a criminal 'task'

It became known that the detained man's friend met a girl on the Internet and planned to date her. Unexpectedly, he received a call from someone claiming to be a law enforcement agency representative, who stated that his new acquaintance had ties to the aggressive state. The fake law enforcement officer hinted at possible troubles if the man continued to communicate with the girl.

After this, the criminal received a 'tip': he could avoid problems by setting fire to the post office where, according to the 'police officer' on the phone, the girl's accomplice worked.

Detention and consequences

The man agreed to the crime and involved his acquaintance in its execution. When they arrived at the post office, the acquaintance doused the entrance doors with a flammable mixture and set them on fire. The fire damaged the doors and posed a threat to visitors and employees, but there were no casualties.

The detained person is currently under investigation. He has been charged with deliberate property damage for the purposes of self-justice and fraud. The actions are being investigated according to the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The police emphasize that fake law enforcement officers actively use psychological pressure and fake threats to involve citizens in criminal activities. Law enforcement officers urge citizens to verify any phone messages from alleged law enforcement officers and report suspicious calls.

The pre-trial investigation continues, and efforts are being made to establish all the circumstances of the incident and the possible involvement of other individuals in the arson.

It should be noted that earlier there was a report about the detention of a Kyiv resident who set fire to the door of a pensioner's apartment in the Shevchenkivskyi district, fulfilling the 'task' of fake law enforcement officers.

The detention of the man who set fire to the post office illustrates new threats arising from fraud disguised as law enforcement. This case highlights the importance of caution among citizens when receiving phone calls from unknown individuals attempting to exploit people's trust. Law enforcement continues to work on the investigation and assures that they will do everything possible to uncover such criminal schemes.
