Gas Cylinder Explosion at a Kyiv Cafe: What We Know About the Fire in Poznyaky

According to ТСН: On Saturday, a fire broke out in one of the cafes in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv.

Eyewitnesses are actively sharing information about the event on local social media, publishing videos from the scene of the incident.

The fire ignited at the cafe 'Barbaris'. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was an explosion of a gas cylinder inside the premises.

In the published footage, thick black smoke and open flames can be seen engulfing part of the building.

Rescue workers are already on the scene.

The rescue service reported that the fire was extinguished at 1:15 PM over an area of 150 square meters. There were no casualties or injuries.

Precautions with Gas Cylinders

It should be remembered that a gas cylinder filled to capacity can 'pop' if stored on a balcony or moved from a cold street to a warm apartment. Due to temperature fluctuations, the pressure inside the cylinder increases, and the valve releases excess gas into the room. This can lead to the formation of an explosive mixture, and any spark can trigger an explosion.

Kyiv residents are once again urged to be careful when using gas cylinders and generators. Generators should only be installed outdoors — at least 6 meters away from residential buildings, windows, and doors; smoke must freely exit outside without hindrance to ventilation.

This fire underscores the importance of following safety rules when using gas appliances. Accidents involving gas cylinder explosions can cause serious harm to both people and property. Therefore, it is essential to be as vigilant and cautious as possible to avoid similar situations in the future.
