Rescuers Recover Body After UAZ Vehicle Plunges Through Ice Near Kyiv.
Tragedy on a Bypass Channel
According to TSN.ua: Rescue workers have recovered the body of one man after a UAZ vehicle broke through the ice on a frozen bypass channel near the village of Lebedivka in the Vyshhorod district of Kyiv region. The incident occurred while the occupants were reportedly driving on the frozen waterway. Search operations are ongoing under challenging conditions.
The UAZ, carrying two men, sank to a depth of over 4 meters. Search efforts have now entered their second day, but the second man was not found inside the vehicle's cabin. Driving on frozen bodies of water is a hazardous, though sometimes practiced, winter activity in the region.
Emergency Service Warning
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) has issued a stark warning about the deadly dangers of recreational activities on ice, urging the public to exercise extreme caution around frozen reservoirs.
This tragedy underscores the severe risks associated with winter recreation on ice-covered water.
Despite the occasional popularity of driving on frozen lakes and channels, such actions can have fatal consequences. The SES advises citizens to adhere to safety rules and avoid hazardous situations during winter leisure activities.
