Train Services Suspended Across Ukraine

According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, has suspended passenger rail services in the Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions due to security concerns. This decision was made to protect passengers and railway staff from active threats in these frontline areas.

Train traffic is now restricted in the following regions:

  • Sumy
  • Chernihiv
  • Kharkiv
  • Zaporizhzhia

In the affected areas, regional trains will only run to and from Konotop, while commuter services are limited to the Krolevets route. In Chernihiv region, the Snovsk — Bakhmach line has been closed entirely to enhance safety.

The Lozova — Barvinkove — Kramatorsk section in Kharkiv region remains hazardous; bus transfers have been arranged there instead. This measure prioritizes passenger safety above all else. In Zaporizhzhia region, the security situation is under constant review, and bus replacements may also be deployed.

Ukrzaliznytsia acknowledged the Proliska Charity Fund for its assistance in organizing these alternative bus transfers, which help maintain essential transport links. These ongoing adjustments are a critical part of wartime logistics for a nation dependent on its railways.

Rationale Behind the Restrictions

The suspension of rail services in these Ukrainian regions is a necessary safety precaution during a period of heightened military activity. While these restrictions impact civilian mobility, their primary goal is to prevent casualties and safeguard lives.

Ukrzaliznytsia will continue to adapt schedules and routes based on the evolving security landscape to ensure maximum safety. Collaboration with aid organizations remains vital for implementing these alternative passenger solutions during the conflict.
