Women Falsely Marked as Wanted: A Growing Concern

According to TSN.ua: In Ukraine, at least seven cases have been documented where women were mistakenly placed on a wanted list by territorial recruitment centers during mobilization. These incidents have sparked outrage, with many women coming forward with similar complaints. Reports indicate that some women may have been added to the military registry without their consent, raising serious questions about legal compliance.

Mandatory Military Registration for Certain Women

Women aged 18 to 60 with medical or pharmaceutical degrees are required to register for military service. Meanwhile, those in other professions can only sign up voluntarily. Failure to register by women with such educational backgrounds may result in administrative penalties. For context, Ukraine's mobilization efforts have intensified amid the ongoing war with Russia, making these registration rules particularly significant.

As expert Maryna Bekalo noted, 'women aged 18 to 60 who are medically fit and have obtained a medical or pharmaceutical specialty are subject to military registration.'

The fine for violating military registration rules stands at 17,000 hryvnias, underscoring the seriousness of the issue and the potential consequences for non-compliant women. Additionally, women with professions related to military occupational specialties may include:

  • lawyers
  • psychologists
  • veterinarians
  • accountants
  • programmers
  • banking staff
  • secretaries
  • photographers
  • and other specialists

According to expert Yehor Lohinov, 'currently, any woman in Ukraine can be made liable for military service without following legal procedures.' This situation has alarmed many women who may face the risk of being called up without proper preparation or knowledge of their rights.

Women can work as non-liable for military service until the end of 2026, a factor that may influence their decisions regarding registration. As women encounter new challenges, maintaining legal awareness and understanding their rights in military service matters is crucial.

This situation highlights the need for strict adherence to the law and transparency in mobilization processes, particularly regarding women's rights in Ukraine. Wrongful inclusion in the military registry can have severe repercussions for women unprepared for service, fueling public discontent. Legal consciousness and knowledge of one's rights are becoming increasingly vital as military procedures and registration rules evolve. Clear communication between state authorities and citizens is essential to prevent similar incidents in the future.
