In Sumy, a child was injured by a grenade: a soldier brought explosives home.
According to ТСН: In Sumy, an 11-year-old boy sustained injuries and was hospitalized due to the explosion of a grenade's fuse that a cohabitant of his mother brought into the apartment.
Law enforcement is investigating this situation involving a harmed child. According to their information, the boy found the explosive left unattended by adults.
How it happened
The dangerous item was brought into the apartment by the mother's cohabitant, who serves in the military. When there were no adults around, the 11-year-old boy discovered the fuse of the grenade and, out of curiosity, pulled the ring. This led to an explosion.
Condition of the child and findings of investigators
The child was quickly hospitalized, and the doctors managed to stabilize his condition. The boy's life is not in danger now.
During the apartment inspection, law enforcement found a significant number of dangerous items: in addition to the detonated fuse, they discovered other ammunition and explosive devices.
Responsibility
The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) has already initiated a pre-trial investigation regarding violations of rules on handling explosives. Investigators are checking why and for what purpose the soldier brought the ammunition into a residential area where civilians and children live.
Besides this incident, recently in Dnipro, a man detonated a grenade in the entrance of a multi-story building, damaging walls and doors. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the explosion.
This situation highlights the seriousness of the problem of safe handling of explosive devices, especially in conditions where civilians, particularly children, may be in danger. It is important for all adults to be greatly attentive and responsible for the safety of not only themselves but also those around them.
