Deferral from Mobilization for Family Reasons: Who is Eligible and How to Apply.
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, martial law and mobilization continue, which will last until February 3, 2026. There is a list of categories of military personnel who can be exempted from military service due to family circumstances.
Grounds for Deferral from Mobilization
The deferral is regulated by the law of Ukraine 'On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization'. The main grounds for obtaining a deferral include:
having three or more minor children in the family;
if there is a child under 18 years old with a disability (of any group), a seriously ill child, or a child over 18 years old with a disability of groups 1 or 2;
a father who is raising a child alone (single father), or the child's mother serving in the Armed Forces;
a father who is raising an adopted child;
the presence of a seriously ill relative, wife, or parents with a disability of groups 1 or 2;
relatives who have died or gone missing as a result of hostilities.
It is also worth noting that a deferral for caring for an elderly person (for example, a father or mother) is possible only if there are no other relatives capable of providing this care.
A deferral for caring for a wife with a disability is also possible, but only if she has a group 3 disability and with certain diagnoses described in the law.
Duration and Documents for Deferral
The duration of deferral from the army for family reasons may vary depending on specific cases, as well as the list of documents required for its registration.
We remind you that martial law in Ukraine has been extended until February 3, 2026, and mobilization will continue from December 1. The current rules of mobilization and the procedure for calling up remain unchanged according to the Law of Ukraine 'On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization'.
Thus, Ukrainians who fall under the specified categories have the opportunity to obtain a deferral from military service. This is an important step in supporting families who find themselves in difficult circumstances during the war. Stay tuned for changes in legislation to be aware of all opportunities and conditions related to mobilization.
