Ukraine’s Military Medical Commission: Who Must Attend and How Long the Results Last.
Understanding the Military Medical Commission in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Under martial law, undergoing the Military Medical Commission (MMC) has become a critical step in Ukraine’s mobilization process. This evaluation does not guarantee enlistment, but it determines whether a citizen is fit for military service. According to current law, the MMC is mandatory for:
- military conscripts,
- individuals previously deemed partially fit,
- citizens enlisting under contract,
- active-duty service members.
Women with medical or pharmaceutical degrees obtained after 2025 must complete the MMC within 60 days of being registered for military service. This new requirement aims to ensure a ready pool of medical personnel in case of need. It is important to note that the MMC decision for conscripts remains valid for one year, allowing them to plan their next steps based on the assessment.
Getting a Referral for the MMC
Referrals for the MMC can be obtained through:
- territorial recruitment centers,
- Armed Forces of Ukraine recruitment centers,
- military unit commanders.
Conscripts can also receive an electronic referral via the dedicated 'Reserve+' app. This tool simplifies the referral process and offers greater convenience for those required to undergo the commission.
In summary, the Military Medical Commission is a key part of Ukraine’s mobilization efforts, helping to assess citizens’ fitness for service and improving the readiness of military units.
Given the growing demand for military personnel and medical support, the new MMC rules highlight the importance of preparedness not only among soldiers but also among healthcare workers. This also reflects the state’s efforts to efficiently mobilize resources during wartime. The 'Reserve+' app could make it easier to access necessary medical exams, potentially speeding up responses to army needs.
