The threat of nuclear weapons from Russia has increased, - Media

According to American intelligence data, the threat that Russia may use nuclear weapons is increasing to 50%. This information is provided in his book by Bob Woodward, editor of The Washington Post.

In his book, Woodward talks about a conversation between US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Russian Defense Minister Shoigu. Both officials discussed the possibility of using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Austin stated that if Russia decides to do so, all conditions under which the US operates will be reviewed.

"We know you are considering using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. If you do, all the restrictions under which we operate in Ukraine will be reviewed," Austin said.
"I lead the most powerful army in the history of the world. I am not threatening," Austin replied to Shoigu's remark about threats.

Information about this dialogue was confirmed by witnesses, documents, and Austin himself. Woodward also reported that US President Joe Biden talked with China's leader Xi Jinping about the inadmissibility of nuclear threats from Russia.

Analysts believe that this influenced China's position. China's leader called on the international community to oppose nuclear war and reject the threat of nuclear weapons. This prompted Kremlin officials to change their rhetoric regarding the use of nuclear weapons, reports the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

In his book, Woodward also notes that the nuclear threat over Ukraine still exists. According to him, Biden believes that Putin will not allow an exit from Ukraine without using tactical nuclear weapons, and therefore the situation remains unchanged.
