Teacher about modern schoolchildren: Why children cannot concentrate and express their opinions.
According to ТСН: Mathematics and physics teacher Tetiana Trush shared her observations about modern schoolchildren. In her opinion, with each passing year, interaction with students becomes increasingly difficult, as children are becoming "dumber" and less capable of performing basic tasks.
These statements from the teacher sparked lively discussions on social media. Trush notes that modern children have difficulty memorizing poetry, concentrating, logically connecting events, and articulating their own thoughts. She believes that the generation that grew up with smartphones and unlimited access to information is losing essential cognitive and emotional skills.
"What angers and weakens me the most is that every year children are getting dumber. They cannot concentrate, cannot explain the connections between phenomena, and are unable to express their opinions clearly. Children have begun to lose humanity and empathy," Trush wrote.
The teacher also remarked that due to difficulties in education, the number of vacancies for teachers is increasing.
How the Network reacted
Trush's post received a negative reaction online. Parents and other educators disagreed with her opinion and believe that modern children are smarter, more open-minded, and adaptable compared to previous generations.
Social media users note that the reasons for fatigue and decreased concentration lie not in "dumbness," but in the overload of students with lessons, clubs, sports sections, and extracurricular activities. Here are a few comments:
"Modern children are more empathetic, open, know languages, engage in sports and technology. Perhaps the problem lies not with the children?"
"Children have 7-9 lessons daily, tests, tutors, clubs. They physically cannot keep up. We had five lessons in our childhood and half a day outdoors."
Some commentators point out that technology opens new opportunities for children's development, and interactive teaching methods make lessons more effective.
It is worth noting that the winner of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2021, Artur Proidakov, called to reconsider the school curriculum. He believes that some of the works in the curriculum are too complex for children aged 12-14 to comprehend. In particular, it concerns "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "Don Quixote" by Cervantes, and "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare.
This discussion emphasizes the importance of adapting educational methods to the needs of modern children. Given the technological advancement and societal changes, teachers and educational institutions should pay attention to new approaches that can help students better absorb material and maintain their attention. In this context, initiatives aimed at updating the school curriculum could be a necessary step to improve the educational process.
