Ukraine proposes Easter ceasefire: Zelensky outlines conditions for potential truce.
President announces readiness to halt hostilities
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signaled Kyiv's willingness to observe a ceasefire during the Easter holiday, describing it as a potential initial step toward broader peace efforts. The presidential office has made clear that any agreements with Russia cannot involve territorial concessions.
Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the President's Office, stated that Moscow has shown no genuine interest in peacefully resolving the conflict. He emphasized that meaningful deals with Russia are only possible under sustained pressure from the international community.
“I simply do not understand how anyone can harbor illusions that effective negotiations with Russia are possible without coercion,” said Mykhailo Podolyak.
The Kremlin has responded to the Easter ceasefire proposal. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, offered comments on the idea, though no details about Russia's official stance on the matter were disclosed. Podolyak also remarked that 'Russia is not ready for any life in peace,' underscoring the lack of optimism regarding potential talks between the two sides.
Ukraine's negotiating position remains unchanged
The Ukrainian President's Office reiterated that 'no agreements can involve territorial concessions or contradict the Constitution and international law.' This reaffirms Kyiv's steadfast approach to negotiations, rooted in the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
President Zelensky's announcement of readiness for an Easter ceasefire may be seen as an effort to find a path toward peace, although it remains unclear whether Russia will accept it. The Kremlin's apparent unwillingness to engage in constructive dialogue, combined with Ukraine's insistence on inviolable territorial rights, highlights the complexity of the situation. How this initiative unfolds could serve as a key indicator of potential progress in peace talks, especially if the international community can influence Russia's position.
