Zelenskyy Open to Talks but Labels Russia's Demands Unacceptable.
Zelenskyy’s Latest Statements on the War and Russia
According to TSN.ua: In an exclusive interview with Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that his country is prepared to engage in dialogue to end the war, but he firmly rejected the conditions put forward by Moscow as unacceptable for Kyiv. He emphasized that Ukrainians are serious about negotiations and believe it is appropriate to hold discussions, particularly at the leadership level.
“We are ready for this,” Zelenskyy said.
He pointed specifically to Russia’s demand that Ukrainian Armed Forces unilaterally withdraw from the territories they currently control in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Zelenskyy also warned that if the war continues, Russian casualties could range from 300,000 to one million soldiers.
“All of these are contracts, and that means 300,000 or one million additional coffins sent to Russia,” he remarked, describing the potential consequences for the Russian Federation.
The Ukrainian leader further highlighted the heavy toll on Russian forces, estimating monthly losses of 28,000, 30,000, or 35,000 troops. “They understand—and we understand—how much time they need to capture this territory with such losses,” Zelenskyy noted. He added, “There is nothing to fight for,” stressing the lack of justification for prolonging the conflict.
These remarks underscore the complexity of the situation and Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate, despite ongoing tensions with Russia. The statements also reflect Kyiv’s position that any peace process must be based on terms it can accept, not on ultimatums from Moscow.
Zelenskyy’s comments demonstrate that Ukraine remains open to peaceful negotiations, but only under conditions that are acceptable to Kyiv. This highlights the critical role of international support and diplomatic pressure on Russia to prevent further casualties and reduce violence in the region. The path forward will depend on both sides’ readiness for compromise and constructive dialogue.
