Zelenskyy Warns Baltic States Could Be Next Target of Russian Offensive.
Statement from Ukraine's President
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised the alarm that Russia may use a full-scale mobilization not only to fuel its war against Ukraine but also to prepare an attack on other nations, particularly the Baltic states. He made this remark during a press briefing, stressing that if Moscow proceeds with a general call-up, Ukraine must brace for an expansion of Russian military operations.
However, Zelenskyy also noted that there is currently no confirmation that the Kremlin is planning a mass conscription. He stated:
“I wouldn’t rush to claim that they will definitely carry out a general mobilization” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy
This indicates that it remains unclear whether Russia will take such a step.
Russia’s Ambitions and Threats to Ukraine and Neighboring Countries
In his remarks, the president also addressed Russia’s ambitions in eastern Ukraine. Specifically, Moscow claims it can seize the Donbas region within two months. In Zelenskyy’s view, however, these intentions may be part of a broader strategy that extends beyond Ukrainian territory.
Additionally, the Kremlin has shown no signals of readiness for a mutual halt to strikes on energy infrastructure. This suggests ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, as well as potential dangers for neighboring states. As a result, while the situation remains under control, the challenges facing countries in the region persist.
Zelenskyy’s statement highlights the pressing threats posed by Russia’s aggressive policies. The mention of a possible general mobilization underscores the need for Ukraine to bolster its defenses and prepare for new challenges. Given recent developments, it is crucial that the international community—especially the Baltic nations—stays informed and takes steps to ensure their own security in the event of an escalation.
