Zelensky in Washington did not receive Tomahawk: what was the reason.
According to inkorr.com: On October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Washington, hoping to receive support in the form of Tomahawk missiles. However, during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the delivery of weapons was not announced. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing The New York Times.
Zelensky had repeatedly appealed to Trump to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles. Initially, the US President seemed inclined to support, but after a conversation with Vladimir Putin, his position changed.
Reactions from Ukrainian politicians
Oleksandr Merezhko, deputy head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, noted that Russia would use such negotiations to undermine Ukraine's position. He added that Ukraine should wait for the results of the Trump-Putin meeting before taking additional steps.
Analysts' assessment
Analysts believe that even without actual delivery of Tomahawk missiles, these weapons could serve as a deterrent for Russia. Harry Nedelcu, senior director at Rasmussen Global, noted that Putin's agreement to a new meeting with Trump could give Ukraine the opportunity to restore energy facilities damaged as a result of Russian attacks.
The meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and the US again drew the attention of the international community. Hopes for support in the form of Tomahawk missiles are still alive, but the political situation is becoming increasingly tense in anticipation of the results of the Trump-Putin negotiations. Analysts continue to assess the probable consequences of these events for Ukraine in global politics.
