The case of the death of a mother in Kyiv: doctor charged.

According to ТСН: The Kyiv police and prosecutors reported a tragic incident at the capital's perinatal center, where a 36-year-old mother died after delivering a stillborn child. According to law enforcement, the event occurred in 2023, after which an investigation was initiated and examinations were appointed. As a result, a 50-year-old gynecologist was charged with improper performance of her duties, which led to the patient's death.

Investigation and conclusions of the prosecutor's office

According to the press service of the prosecutor's office, instead of performing a fetal destructive operation, the woman had to give birth to a stillborn child on her own.

“Moreover, the woman was supposed to be periodically examined after childbirth but was left alone in the ward, not noticing the bleeding in time,”

– the prosecutor's office stated. They also added that

“when the woman was in labor, it was diagnosed that the child was dead. She was supposed to have surgery to retrieve the child, but the woman was sent to give birth. After that, due to injuries, the woman bled out,”

the prosecutor's office reports. According to the agency, the mother lived for another 4 hours after giving birth and died as a result of massive bleeding, which was confirmed by an examination.

Possible consequences for the doctor

If the doctor's guilt is proven in court, she faces a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to five years, or corrective works for up to two years, or restriction of liberty for up to two years, or imprisonment for the same period.

Director's comment

The director of the Kyiv City Center for Reproductive and Perinatal Medicine Oksana Holikova stated that the accused doctor has been suspended from her duties.

“This case occurred over two years ago. As far as I know, the case will be referred to court. As of now, the guilt of the doctor has not been proven. The doctor is suspended from work.”

She also noted that the decision regarding actions is made by the council, and she is prohibited from disclosing details due to medical confidentiality.

Testimony of the deceased mother's husband

The husband of the deceased, Oleksandr Strilets, said that his wife was 36 weeks pregnant and finally gave birth. He emphasized that the doctors did not provide proper assistance.

“Well, accordingly, we started our actions. We went to expedite the examination processes... People can survive without arms or legs from blood loss. How can one die from blood loss in a maternity hospital… This is madness,”

the husband complains.

Family believes that doctors are hiding the truth

Relatives believe that medical staff attempted to mask the true cause of the tragedy.

“I don’t know how these people sleep. They first said that a thrombus detached... But you will be given what they want based on the fact... to hide all this,”

Oleksandr expressed.

This incident highlights the importance of proper medical assistance during childbirth and after. The investigation continues, and the case of the mother's death is being monitored by law enforcement and society, which is awaiting justice in this tragedy. The doctor's guilt may have serious consequences both for her and for the healthcare system in Ukraine.
