Illegal kiosks dismantled on Maidan: what is planned to be removed on Khreshchatyk.
According to ТСН: The dismantling of illegal kiosks located near bus stops No. 18 and No. 16 took place at Independence Square. Some residents of Kyiv, seeing the remnants of the structures, thought that this was the consequence of a Russian drone strike. Instead, a large pile of debris made up of broken boards, glass, and metal parts emerged in the square.
The dismantling was carried out by workers from the Kyiv Municipal Services. Yesterday, they collected the remnants of the structures and prepared them for removal.
Kyiv residents' reaction to the dismantling
People react differently to this event. Some believe that in wartime, tearing down kiosks is impractical as it is difficult for entrepreneurs to maintain their businesses. Others argue that these kiosks often sold chebureks, and noisy companies and homeless people gathered nearby.
Official information about the dismantling
The Department of Territorial Control of Kyiv confirmed that the dismantling only concerns illegal structures. They also plan to dismantle all structures on Khreshchatyk and Independence Square, and work in the center of Kyiv will continue from next week.
“Dismantling continues within the framework of the Kyiv City Council decision of June 13, 2024, No. 915/8881. Owners of temporary structures are warned in advance with notices about the need for self-dismantling. In case of non-compliance with the requirements, the dismantling is carried out by Kyiv Municipal Services, after which the objects are transported to a special site for temporary storage,” the Department of Territorial Control of Kyiv reported.
On Khreshchatyk, 18 temporary structures are planned to be dismantled, and together with the objects on Independence Square, a total of 34.
Currently, a campaign is underway in the capital to free urban space from illegal structures and small architectural forms (MAFs). Work is being carried out from Khreshchatyk to Independence Square.
At the same time, in Odessa, a petition has been submitted for the dismantling of Pushkin's bust on Primorsky Boulevard and the establishment of a monument to U.S. President Donald Trump in its place. The collection of signatures will last until April 8, 2026, and at the time of writing this news, the document has been supported by 14 people out of the necessary thousand.
This dismantling campaign in Kyiv has sparked lively discussions among residents, as it concerns not only the improvement of the city's appearance but also the economic situation of entrepreneurs. At the same time, the initiative in Odessa may indicate a shift in approaches to culture and monuments in public spaces.
