Medvedchuk’s Superyacht Royal Romance Nears Sale: What’s Known About the Final Stage.
Royal Romance Yacht Reaches Final Preparations for Auction
According to TSN.ua: The Royal Romance, a superyacht owned by Viktor Medvedchuk, is entering its final phase of preparation for sale. The Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), working alongside international partners, is developing a sales model for the vessel, while the Prosecutor General’s Office has submitted an indictment to the court.
Originally purchased for €200 million at a shipyard in the Netherlands, the yacht was approved for sale by Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers in February 2024. It has also been listed in Interpol’s Stolen Vessels database, highlighting its role in investigations tied to Medvedchuk’s assets. This context underscores Ukraine’s broader efforts to track and recover illicit wealth linked to figures accused of corruption and ties to Russia.
Yacht Status and Other Seized Assets
In addition, another vessel, the Amore Mio, remains the subject of a search. Last year, seven Russian nationals attempted to move the Royal Romance from a Croatian port, but the effort was thwarted thanks to the intervention of then-head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov. Some of Medvedchuk’s property, including luxury watches and a Maybach car, has already been sold, while his helicopter was transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The case of the Royal Romance is a key element in the broader investigation into Medvedchuk’s assets, helping to shed light on the scale of corruption and illegal activities linked to his business. Selling the yacht could represent a major step toward returning assets to the state and strengthening justice in Ukraine, especially during the ongoing war and the pressing need to fund the military.
