Drone Strikes Hit Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk: Fatalities Reported and Historic Sites Damaged.
Drone Attacks Target Ukrainian Cities
According to TSN.ua: On March 24, Russia launched a large-scale assault on several regional capitals in western and central Ukraine, resulting in explosions, structural damage, and loss of life. The drone attacks struck Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Impact on Urban Centers
In Lviv, drones hit multiple districts, including the historic city center and the Sykhiv area. Fires broke out in residential buildings on Soborna Square, Brativ Rohatyntsiv Street, and Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue. A nationally significant landmark—the Bernardine Monastery complex—also sustained damage.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, the attack damaged a maternity hospital. A National Guard serviceman and his 15-year-old daughter were killed in the city center. These events have alarmed local residents and highlighted the dangers faced by Ukrainian communities.
Yuriy Ihnat, head of communications for the Ukrainian Air Force, assured the public that sending air defense specialists to the Middle East would not weaken Ukraine's defenses. He stated:
'We have manufacturers producing some of the best and most cost-effective air defense systems that can be scaled in large numbers to ensure protection.' Yuriy Ihnat, Head of Communications, Ukrainian Air Force
Ihnat also emphasized the value of Ukraine's experience: 'Ukraine's experience is priceless, which is why we must continue training our pilots in these areas.'
These attacks once again underscore the urgent need to strengthen the country's defense capabilities and ensure civilian safety amid armed conflict. Strikes on civilian infrastructure highlight the escalating violence and threats to the population, demanding immediate improvements to air defense systems and the protection of ordinary people.
