Crisis in Kyiv's energy system: hundreds of houses without heat, changes in public transport.
According to ТСН: Russia continues its energy terror against Ukraine, trying to plunge the country into darkness. After the night attack, the situation in the capital region has become critical.
Blackout in Kyiv: hundreds of houses left without light and heat
The night attack by Russians with ballistic missiles caused serious damage to energy facilities such as heating plants, high-voltage lines, and substations. As a result, emergency electricity shutdowns have been implemented in Kyiv and the region.
The worst situation is on the Left Bank, where electricity is supplied for only 3 hours, and heating has been absent for five days. The situation on the Right Bank has also worsened after the attacks.
Approximately 700 houses in the city remain without heat, and the temperature in homes has dropped to 16°C. Similar electricity supply problems are observed in Irpin, Bucha, and Hostomel.
Some Kyiv residents have been without heating for three days. The temperature in their apartment is +11 degrees, and people are forced to wear jackets, put on warm shoes, and cover themselves with several blankets, reports 'News Live'.
The mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, stated that the energy deficit hinders even the work of critical infrastructure but denied rumors about the closure of supermarkets.
Energy workers from DTEK and Ukrenergo are working around the clock, but their actions are hindered by constant shelling, low air temperatures, and peak load on the network.
Supermarkets suspended their operations
Some supermarkets in Kyiv have temporarily changed their operating hours due to emergency shutdowns. For instance, the Novus chain closed about 17 stores, including on Akhmatova, Zlatooustivska, Naberezhna, and Hryhorenka avenues.
Silpo also reports brief closures due to equipment failures caused by blackouts. Meanwhile, the ATB chain operates continuously thanks to generators.
Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko denied rumors of mass closures of large chains, thanking businesses for their work under emergency conditions.
Economy Minister Oleksii Sobolev confirmed that there are no systematic supermarket closures, explaining that temporary stops are related to technical failures of generators or servicing of equipment.
Temporary changes in public transport in Kyiv
On the Right Bank of Kyiv, the movement of trams and trolleybuses has been suspended; they have been replaced by buses. New routes provide access to the railway station and key metro stations.
A complete list of updated traffic schemes and stops is available on the official KMDA portal.
What is the fuel situation in Kyiv region
The situation at gas stations in Kyiv remains stable. Despite rumors on social media, there are no queues, and fuel is sold in the usual manner. However, in Irpin and Bucha, there is increased demand for fuel for generators due to prolonged power outages.
Unpleasant forecast for Kyiv residents
The situation in Kyiv's energy system remains complex due to attacks and adverse weather. Instead of planned schedules, emergency shutdowns are in effect. The Left Bank remains without electricity, and energy workers are working to restore equipment.
Emergency recovery work continues almost around the clock, despite difficult weather conditions, to stabilize the energy system as quickly as possible, said Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk.
At the same time, water will be supplied in Kyiv region according to a temporary schedule in the morning and evening hours.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko instructed to urgently provide critical infrastructure facilities with backup power sources.
How the government is saving the energy system
The government is taking emergency measures to stabilize the energy system after massive attacks and in the conditions of severe frosts. Thanks to a review of the list of critical facilities, it has been possible to add 1 GW of capacity to the network, which helps balance the system.
Emergency Services are installing powerful generators in problematic areas of Kyiv to provide electricity to entire residential neighborhoods.
Simultaneously, additional 'Points of Unbreakability' are being deployed throughout the country, and authorities are monitoring the stability of fuel prices and the uninterrupted operation of grocery networks.
Energy workers are working to restore generation and import electricity to cover the deficit.
What experts predict
Expert from the Razumkov Center Volodymyr Omelyan forecasts that the situation with energy supply will not improve until the end of winter. According to him, attacks exhaust the system faster than repairs go, and the lack of heating has already affected the Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv.
People's Deputy Serhiy Nagornyak believes that it will take Ukraine from one to one and a half years to restore the energy infrastructure.
He noted that despite numerous attacks, the Ukrainian system continues to hold on.
The enemy’s main strategy is to 'fragment' the energy networks to leave large cities without light, water, and heat.
