Ukraine to Implement Hourly Power Outage Schedules Nationwide Starting January 27.
Hourly Power Outage Schedules for Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Due to ongoing energy supply issues, Ukraine will introduce scheduled hourly power cuts across all its regions, effective from January 27. These planned outages will be in effect from 00:00 to 23:59 daily. This measure applies to the entire country, including the capital Kyiv and the surrounding region, where emergency blackouts are already occurring. This coordinated approach aims to manage severe strain on the national grid caused by repeated attacks on energy infrastructure.
In the Mykolaiv region, the outage schedule will be organized into specific queues with set times to better manage electricity distribution. Similarly, Zaporizhzhia will implement a schedule involving five separate queues. The Cherkasy region will also apply hourly schedules to help stabilize the local energy situation.
The Sumy region will tailor its hourly outage schedule based on capacity limits provided by the national energy company, Ukrenergo. This is intended to enable more efficient use of available resources. It is important to note that a recent attack damaging a school and residential buildings in Kharkiv may further complicate the power supply situation in that area.
Regions Implementing the New Schedules
The hourly power outage schedules will be introduced in all regions, including:
- Lviv
- Rivne
- Chernivtsi
- Kirovohrad
- Poltava
- Chernihiv
- Volyn
- Vinnytsia
- Zakarpattia
- Ternopil
This decision is part of broader efforts to maintain power grid stability across Ukraine during an exceptionally difficult period for its energy sector.
The introduction of these scheduled blackouts is a direct response to the persistent crisis facing Ukraine's energy infrastructure following numerous targeted attacks. These measures are designed to optimize electricity consumption and reduce load on the power grids, which may help prevent widespread, uncontrolled blackouts. Close coordination with local authorities and Ukrenergo is a key component, allowing schedules to be adapted to the specific conditions in each region.
