Captain of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Fined for Mass Desertion of Subordinates
According to TSN.ua: The captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF) has been fined for the mass desertion of subordinates from the military unit. The Chortkiv District Court found him guilty of negligent performance of duty. The decision was made in the Chortkiv district of the Ternopil region. The court proceedings took place without the captain's presence, as he is on the front lines.
In December 2025, five servicemen left the unit without permission. An inspection of military discipline revealed a critical situation in the 63rd reserve company, where the number of cases of unauthorized leaving of the unit was the highest in the entire unit. Judge Yakovets N. V. delivered a verdict, finding the captain guilty of negligent performance of military duty.
Sanctions and Their Consequences
The captain was fined 17,000 hryvnias and 1,665 hryvnias for court fees. This case highlights the seriousness of the discipline problem in military units during service.
The noted incident underscores the importance of maintaining discipline in the army, especially in times of war. The desertion of servicemen can negatively impact the combat readiness of units, so the issue of control over military discipline remains relevant. The court's decision may serve as a signal to other commanders regarding the need to improve management skills and increase responsibility for subordinates.
