Deadly Neglect of a Fox in Kyiv

According to TSN.ua: A 55-year-old woman in Kyiv faces criminal suspicion following the death of a fox she kept in her apartment under deplorable conditions. The incident came to light in late December of last year, when authorities discovered the woman had been housing wild animals, including a fox that ultimately succumbed to a lack of proper care.

According to law enforcement, during an inspection they recovered the carcass of a black-and-brown fox that had suffered moderate bodily injuries. The animal could not survive the circumstances in which it was kept. Additionally, a wolf was seized from the woman's residence and is now being cared for at an animal rescue center.

Legal Consequences

The woman has been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison. Notably, seven years ago, two wolves named Arman and Malysh were also taken from this same woman, highlighting a recurring pattern of improper wild animal keeping.

The case has sparked outrage among animal rights activists and the public, who are calling for stricter oversight of wild animals kept in domestic settings.

Improper conditions can lead not only to the death of animals but also pose risks to human safety. The track record of offenders in this matter suggests that stronger controls are necessary to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future.
