According to TSN.ua: Kyiv is preparing for a severe cold spell and extended electricity blackouts, a result of damage to the nation's energy infrastructure. Mayor Vitali Klitschko has announced that Ukraine's power system is operating in a crisis mode with limited capacity. Consequently, residents of the capital must brace for new challenges. This situation is a direct consequence of ongoing attacks on Ukraine's critical energy facilities.

A worsening of weather conditions is expected to coincide with these prolonged power cuts. As of today, the energy system can only supply electricity to Kyiv residents for an average of one and a half to two hours per day. Restoring the destroyed capacity of the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant, as well as Kyiv's TPP-5 and TPP-6, could take from three to five years.
