Kyiv Universities Shift to Remote Instruction

According to TSN.ua: In response to severe cold and an emergency energy situation, Kyiv has mandated a shift to remote learning for all higher education and vocational institutions. The decision, announced on January 14, aims to ensure safety and maintain the educational process. Meanwhile, the fate of schools remains undecided, with a potential extension of the holiday break until February 1, 2026 under consideration.

According to a statement from Kateryna Pop, all higher and vocational education institutions located in Kyiv will transition to a distance learning format. She noted that if a corresponding decision is made, the educational process will continue remotely or students will remain on holiday until February 1. This situation reflects the broader challenges Ukraine's infrastructure faces during winter.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the Ministry of Education and local authorities to prepare proposals for organizing the educational process under the state of emergency.

Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced the possible extension of school holidays, a significant decision for students and parents. As of now, the question of how schools will operate remains open and is a key topic for officials.

Energy Crisis Prompts Shift to Online Education

The move to remote learning for Kyiv's universities and vocational schools is a direct response to the complex energy situation exacerbated by freezing weather. This measure seeks to safeguard the well-being of students and staff while preserving academic continuity. The parallel discussion on extending school holidays highlights the widespread impact of the crisis, with pending decisions set to affect thousands of families across the capital.
