Conspiracy Theories about the Laptop in an Ancient Greek Statue: What the Woman is Really Holding
According to TSN.ua: The statue, known as 'The Tombstone of the Skilled Woman on the Throne with a Handmaid', has become the subject of numerous conspiracy theories. Researchers have focused on the object that the woman on the throne is likely holding. Conspiracists have hypothesized that this object could be a laptop; however, scientific research disproves this theory.
Research on the Statue
Archaeologist Christina Kilgrove detailed the statue in 2016 and stated that the myth of the laptop is unfounded. She noted that the object the woman interacts with is more likely a wax tablet for writing or a flat box for small ornaments. This discovery challenges popular notions of technology in ancient times.
Interestingly, the holes noted on the side of the object may be traces of a fastening or the result of restoration, rather than evidence that it is a device resembling a modern laptop. As Kilgrove pointed out, the woman depicted on the ceiling is reaching to touch the lid of the object held by the handmaid. The hairstyle and clothing of the handmaid indicate her status, reinforcing the idea that the statue is a tomb monument, not an artifact with progressive technology.
Thus, the research on the statue 'The Tombstone of the Skilled Woman on the Throne with a Handmaid' disproves the widespread theory about the laptop, confirming that the object with which the woman interacts serves a completely different purpose.
This situation underscores the importance of a scientific approach to the interpretation of archaeological artifacts, as popular theories often may not correspond to reality. The significance of such research lies in its ability to preserve historical accuracy and dispel myths that may distort our understanding of the past.
