What We Know About the Carpathian Avalanche
According to TSN.ua: An avalanche descended on the slopes of the Chornohora Ridge in the Carpathian Mountains while a group of skiers was present. One individual was completely buried by the snow but was successfully rescued by their companions. Fortunately, the other skiers avoided serious injury.
Authorities are currently maintaining a Level 3 avalanche warning for the high mountain region, which is in effect from March 1st to March 2nd. Tourists are being urged to avoid potentially dangerous areas. The Carpathians are a popular destination for winter sports, but conditions can change rapidly.
Commenting on the situation, Vitaliy Hlagoła stated: 'We know that one person was completely buried. But their friends managed to dig them out in time. The others miraculously avoided serious consequences.'
This incident in the Carpathians follows a series of tragic avalanches in California, which have claimed the lives of at least eight people, with one individual still missing.
Safety During Winter Mountain Activities
In light of these events, it is crucial to emphasize safety during winter mountain excursions. The significant avalanche danger observed in the Carpathians underscores the need for caution and adherence to expert advice. Tourists should:
