Sharp Cold Snap in Ukraine: Ukrenergo Calls for Electricity Savings

According to ТСН: Due to the sharp cold snap expected in Ukraine in the coming days, energy workers urge citizens to consume electricity wisely, especially during peak loads in the morning and evening.

NЕК «Ukrenergo» published recommendations that can help maintain balance in the energy system and reduce the need for restrictions.

Recommendations for Electricity Savings

To counter attempts by the enemy to plunge Ukrainians into darkness, energy workers suggest:

  • not to turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time;

  • to turn off the lights in empty rooms and offices;

  • to unplug electrical appliances that are not in use;

  • to shift energy-intensive processes such as washing, heating the boiler, and operating the dishwasher to nighttime — after 11:00 PM;

  • to limit the use of electric heaters as much as possible, avoiding them during peak consumption hours in the morning and evening (08:00–11:00, 16:00–22:00);

  • to replace incandescent bulbs with energy-saving ones;

  • to use energy-efficient household appliances;

  • after the electricity returns according to the schedule, to start using powerful electrical appliances not earlier than 20 minutes later.

"In current conditions, if each consumer makes at least minimal efforts to save electricity at home and at work — it will significantly strengthen the resilience of our energy system and shorten the periods of mandatory outages," the representatives of "Ukrenergo" assure.

It is also worth noting that experts previously warned: power outages in Ukraine are likely to last at least until the beginning of March. This is due to the fact that the energy system operates at the limits of its capabilities in winter due to a significant increase in consumption.
