Why the family of the deceased TV presenter Maksym Nelipa cannot erect a memorial.
Hurdles for Maksym Nelipa's family
According to TSN.ua: The relatives of Ukrainian television presenter and soldier Maksym Nelipa face difficulties in establishing a grave monument. After his death in May 2025, promised payments and benefits failed to materialize, complicating the financing of the memorial complex. The family tried to obtain support through a municipal program – in vain, as the Baikowe cemetery, where Maksym is buried, does not fall under its regulation.
Family plan for the monument
About 150,000 Hryvnias must be raised for the monument, according to the plan. Maksym's brother Andrij Nelipa stated:
'Max was buried in Baikowe cemetery, next to our relatives. Not in the "special area for honorary graves."', Andrij Nelipa
He added: 'After all, they gave us a worthy place, for which we are grateful. So we have no choice but to commission the ensemble for Max ourselves.'
Maksym Nelipa served in unmanned systems forces and held the rank of lieutenant. Despite financial constraints and bureaucratic obstacles, his family hopes to raise the necessary funds to honor his memory.
This case highlights the issues faced by the survivors of fallen Ukrainian soldiers – especially when it comes to a proper tribute. The lack of state support burdens not only the wallet but also the emotional farewell process. It is evident that the support mechanisms for war widows and orphans need urgent improvement so that they can properly commemorate their heroes.
