Student found guilty in connection with 15-year-old: court issued an unusual verdict.
Court verdict in the case of a 19-year-old student
According to TSN.ua: In the Zhytomyr region, a 19-year-old student was found guilty of sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. The court issued a verdict under which the young man was sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment but was released from serving the sentence with a probation period of 1 year.
The case was heard by the Chernyakhiv District Court of Zhytomyr region. The incident occurred in July 2025 in the Chernyakhiv district, where law enforcement opened a criminal proceeding under part 1 of Article 155 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The girl with whom the student had a relationship was 15 years old, which triggered the legal responsibility of the accused.
Discussion in society
The trial ended with the young man being found guilty; however, taking into account the positive characteristics of the boy, who had no previous convictions, is studying, and sincerely repenting, the court decided to release him from serving his sentence with a probation period of 1 year. This decision sparked some discussion in society, as similar cases often provoke outrage and concern regarding the safety of minors.
This case highlights the complexity of legislation regarding the protection of minors in Ukraine, as well as society's reaction to such cases. The verdict chosen by the court with a probation period can be viewed as an attempt to find a balance between punishment and the possibility of rehabilitation for the young person. However, such a practice may provoke further debates about the effectiveness of existing laws and their impact on the safety of children in society.
