Stepfather Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Rape of 14-Year-Old Stepdaughter

According to ТСН: In Khmelnytskyi, a man was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months of imprisonment for sexual relations with his 14-year-old stepdaughter. The man was supposed to take care of the child, but instead, he consumed alcohol and committed illegal acts.

This information was confirmed by the verdict of the Khmelnytskyi City District Court.

The Step-father Took Advantage of the Mother's Absence

The court found that the events took place in March 2024, when the girl’s mother left her in the care of her cohabitant while she went to work abroad.

The investigation recorded at least four instances of criminal acts. The first incident occurred when the man was in a state of intoxication. Knowing that the girl was his stepdaughter, he engaged in sexual acts. During the trial, the man claimed that everything happened 'by mutual consent.'

Defendant's Position

The man admitted his guilt in court, confirming that he took care of his civil partner’s children while she was at work. He expressed 'sincere remorse' and asked not to impose a harsh penalty on him.

The mother of the victim and her legal representative did not file a civil lawsuit, trusting the court to determine the appropriate punishment.

Court Verdict: Recidivism and Aggravating Circumstances

In determining the sentence, the court considered that the defendant had previously had legal troubles. In particular, in June 2023, he was convicted of theft, and in August 2025, he was sentenced for evading punishment.

Aggravating circumstances included:

  • Committing the crime while intoxicated.
  • Recidivism of crimes.
  • Committing acts against a family member.

The court decided:

  • To find the man guilty under part 2 of article 155 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
  • To impose a final sentence of 6 years and 8 months of imprisonment.
  • To prohibit the convict from working with children or engaging in their upbringing for a period of 3 years.
  • To recover over 32 thousand hryvnias from the defendant for conducting expert examinations.

Currently, the convict is in custody, serving sentences for previous verdicts.

This case highlights a serious problem of abuse and violence in family environments, especially regarding children. The judicial decision could serve as an important signal to society about the need to strengthen the control over such cases and protect minors.
