According to ТСН: A public transport bus was recorded in Kyiv where the temperature inside reached minus 14 degrees. Photos with ice on the windows and doors of the route appeared on social media.

Reasons for the Problem

Kyiv residents who noticed this situation appealed to the city mayor for clarification. The author of the published photos claims that it was indeed -14 degrees inside bus number 101. According to the driver, he received instructions from the management to save fuel, provoking outrage among passengers who demanded a response from the city authorities.

"Dear Mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klitschko. Are you alright? Do ordinary people matter to you? In public transport, specifically in bus number 101, the temperature inside is -14 degrees. How is this understandable? The driver said it is your instruction to save fuel. And passengers - are they people or cattle? And do you ride in public transport? Your response..."

The Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration stated that the comfort and safety of passengers remain their priorities.

"No instructions have been given to reduce the temperature in the salons of public transport."

The department promises to check the information about the operation of bus number 101, clarify the situation with the driver, and conduct negotiations with all drivers to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Let us remind you that Ukraine is currently experiencing one of the harshest winters in the last decade. In the coming days, Kyiv, Kyiv region, and southern Belarus will become the coldest region in Europe. Environmentalist Oleksandr Sokolienko predicts that frosts in the capital could last until the next weekend, peaking in coldness on January 13-16, when temperatures could drop to -22 degrees.

"Regarding the western part of Ukraine, for instance, Lviv region, it will be chilly, but not as strong - 9-10 degrees. And the coldest by the end of the week will be in the north of Chernihiv region - up to -24 degrees. In southern Ukraine, frosts will not be extreme: in the Odesa region, temperatures are expected from -6 to -9 degrees, and in Crimea from -2 to -7," the expert predicts.

The situation with bus number 101 reflects the general problems in the public transport system during extreme weather conditions. The necessity to maintain comfortable temperatures for passengers becomes particularly important during severe frosts, when the safety of people must be a priority. The authorities' response to residents' complaints will be an important step in improving the situation with public transport in the capital.
