Newborn Abandoned in Ternopil
According to TSN.ua: A newborn baby girl was discovered in the stairwell of an apartment building on Kyivska Street in Ternopil around 1 a.m. The infant is currently in intensive care, receiving necessary medical treatment. Police have now identified the child's mother, a 20-year-old woman originally from Zboriv who resides in Ternopil with her grandmother.
According to police, the woman was not under medical supervision and gave birth at home. After delivering the baby, she left the newborn unattended in the building's entrance. Investigators have launched a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 135 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which addresses abandonment of a person in a dangerous state. Such incidents highlight the critical need for accessible prenatal and postnatal support systems.
Community Response and Investigation
The case has provoked significant concern within the local community. Thanks to coordinated efforts by law enforcement, authorities were able to quickly identify the mother. Police continue to gather information to clarify all circumstances surrounding this event.
This incident has sparked broader discussions in Ukraine about challenges facing young mothers, including social support networks and access to medical services. It underscores the importance of providing adequate assistance to women during pregnancy and after childbirth, as well as raising awareness about available resources. Police and social services are working to improve support for individuals in difficult life situations.
