According to ТСН: In Atacama, archaeologists discovered the mummy of a man who died approximately 1000 years ago, likely under the rubble of a mine.

The mummified remains were found near an ancient turquoise mine close to the town of El Salvador in northern Chile. The natural dryness of the air caused the body to be naturally mummified.

Together with the body, archaeologists also found burial goods. The presence of a bow and arrows suggests the possible status of the man as a hunter or warrior, however, the chamber for hallucinogens and the proximity to the mine indicate his likely role as a miner.

Using radiocarbon analysis, scientists established that the man lived between 894 and 1016 AD, and his age based on anthropological characteristics was approximately 25-40 years.

It should be noted that earlier specialists studied the only known today mummy that has a bright green tint. This is the remains of a teenager who died 200-400 years ago in Italy.

This discovery in Atacama opens new horizons for studying the life and culture of the ancient inhabitants of this territory. Archaeologists hope to further investigate the context related to the mummy to understand what conditions contributed to its preservation and what the everyday practices of miners at that time were like.
