According to TSN.ua: Ukraine’s defense forces have carried out a strike on the Aviastar aircraft manufacturing plant located in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region. This facility plays a critical role for the Russian military, as it specializes in producing military transport aircraft such as the Il-76MD-90A and the Il-78M-90A aerial refueling tanker. The plant also handles maintenance for heavy transport planes like the An-124 Ruslan.

As part of the Rostec state corporation, Aviastar is a key asset in Russia’s defense industrial base. The extent of the damage caused by this attack is currently being assessed.

Escalation of Combat Operations

This incident comes amid an uptick in military activity. On March 15, Ukrainian forces also struck logistics hubs used by Russian occupation troops. In addition, Ukraine’s defense units targeted:

• the Maykop airfield in the Republic of Adygea;
• the Kremniy El microelectronics plant in Bryansk.
