Zaporizhzhia NPP loses power again: what happened at the occupied station at night

According to ТСН: On the night of January 3, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant again lost electricity from one of the high-voltage lines.

According to information from the Ministry of Energy, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russian shelling has repeatedly damaged the power lines of the ZNPP, leading to 12 blackouts. The last incident occurred less than a month ago.

“Russia is deliberately disabling the energy infrastructure in the occupied territory and testing the connection of the Zaporizhzhia NPP to its energy system under combat conditions and occupation,” the Ministry of Energy emphasized.

In addition, at night, occupying troops also attacked the energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, causing power outages. The Kherson thermal power plant was again attacked, and emergency recovery work is ongoing.

As a reminder, at the end of December, a temporary ceasefire was announced at the Zaporizhzhia NPP between Ukraine and the Russian Federation to carry out repairs on damaged power lines. This condition was established through the mediation of the IAEA.

It has become known that the Zaporizhzhia NPP is again connected to the Ukrainian grid. This is already the third case in recent months in which external power supply to the occupied station was restored through the mediation of the IAEA.

This situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP highlights the ongoing threats facing energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Despite efforts to restore power supply, combat operations continue to create new challenges that require global attention and response.
