Zelensky Signals Possible Resumption of Talks with the U.S. and Russia.
Potential Revival of Three-Party Negotiations
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia—aimed at ending the war—could be revived. He noted that in recent days, signals from the American side have suggested talks might resume soon. Key factors shaping these discussions include Russia’s stance and the status of EU sanctions.
Zelensky emphasized that the 20th EU sanctions package against Russia is currently at a standstill. He also pointed out that a €90 billion European credit assistance package for Ukraine has been non-operational for three months. These issues could influence whether dialogue between the parties is restored.
Support and Negotiation Status
On March 19, 2023, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian president, stated that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are on a “situational” pause. Zelensky expressed uncertainty about continued support, stating:
“We don’t know for sure whether this support will be unlocked.” - Volodymyr Zelensky
As a result, the question of resuming three-party talks remains open, with next steps depending on Russia’s position, EU sanctions, and the status of financial aid to Ukraine.
The potential revival of negotiations between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia is critical not only for regional stability but also for shaping Ukraine’s economic future. Delays in European financial assistance could significantly impact domestic policy and socio-economic conditions in the country. Against this backdrop, Russia’s posture and the response of the international community—particularly the EU—remain pivotal to how the situation evolves.
