Ukraine's Proposed Military-Technical Exchange with Middle East

According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced his readiness to engage in a military-technical exchange with Middle Eastern countries. This proposal, made on March 3 during a briefing following a meeting of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, specifically involves the potential supply of Ukrainian interceptor drones in return for PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This initiative highlights Ukraine's urgent need to bolster its air defenses against ongoing aerial threats.

Zelenskyy noted that several Middle Eastern nations possess Patriot systems, which are crucial for protecting airspace. Ukraine is currently experiencing a critical shortage of PAC-3 missiles, severely hampering its air defense capabilities.

"If they give them to us, we will give them interceptors. It is an equivalent exchange," the President emphasized.

Talks with the UAE and Airspace Protection

Furthermore, Zelenskyy is in talks with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, signaling a deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and regional states. Plans are also being developed to establish a 'sanitary cordon' on Russian territory to enhance the security of Kharkiv.

The President stressed that safeguarding the skies remains the absolute top priority:

"Undoubtedly, this is the number one question for everyone—how to protect the sky."

Zelenskyy's initiative for a military-technical exchange could therefore mark a significant step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities while forging strategic partnerships in the Middle East. Access to modern defense technologies is vital for Ukraine's military effectiveness amid the current regional security crisis.
