Pack of 12 Dogs Kills Four Sheep in Rivne Park Attack.
Deadly Incident at Ostvytsia Historical Park
According to TSN.ua: A tragic event unfolded at the Ostvytsia historical reconstruction park in Rivne when a pack of 12 dogs attacked a flock of sheep, resulting in the deaths of four animals. Two other sheep sustained severe injuries, and veterinarians are currently fighting to save their lives. Local residents are deeply concerned about safety, as the same dogs had previously attacked people in the area.
The attack occurred overnight as the pack of 12 dogs descended on the sheep. Four animals were killed instantly, while two others suffered critical wounds—one of them lost an eye.
“Veterinarians had to stitch them up; their faces were torn, their ears... One eye had to be amputated,” reported Yuriy Oytsyus, director of Ostvytsia Park.
Growing Alarm Over Safety
The situation has sparked widespread concern among locals, especially since the same dog pack had already killed six chickens and a cat at a neighboring property.
“I reviewed the camera footage: after they finished with the sheep, the pack lunged at a person walking nearby,” said Oleh Petrenko, the park’s head master. This highlights a clear threat to the safety of area residents.
Dog handlers have also weighed in, warning about the dangers posed by aggressive canine behavior. Viktoriya Pyrohova, a canine expert, advises following these steps when encountering a dog pack:
- Stop: do not run or wave your arms;
- Do not turn your back;
- Use protective measures.
In the meantime, the surviving sheep will be kept under triple lock to prevent a repeat of the tragedy. The incident has raised serious concerns and calls for urgent action to ensure the safety of both animals and people.
This event in Rivne underscores the critical need for better control of stray animals and the implementation of measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The situation raises serious questions about safety for both animals and local residents, especially given past cases of dog aggression. Local authorities may be compelled to explore new strategies for addressing the stray animal problem to create a secure environment for everyone in the area.
