Electricity Outage Schedules in Ukraine

According to TSN.ua: Starting March 3, Ukraine will implement scheduled hourly electricity blackouts. This emergency measure is a direct response to a severe power deficit caused by Russian attacks on the nation's power stations. These strikes on critical energy infrastructure have forced utility companies to take drastic steps to maintain grid stability and prevent a total collapse of the power system.

In the capital, Kyiv, 60 separate consumer groups have been established to manage the outages. Each group will face electricity restrictions during specific assigned hours. The initial schedule for Kyiv is as follows:

  • Group 1 — from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Group 2 — from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Group 3 — no outages scheduled
  • Group 4 — from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Group 5 — from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
  • and so on for all 60 groups.

Situation in Other Regions

The scheduled outages will also be in effect for these oblasts:

  • Kyiv
  • Odesa
  • Vinnytsia
  • Sumy
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Poltava
  • Cherkasy
  • Chernihiv
  • Kirovohrad

Meanwhile, no power cuts are currently planned for the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Volyn, Lviv, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Chernivtsi regions.

Rebuilding Ukraine's shattered energy sector is estimated to require approximately $90.6 billion, underscoring the immense scale of the damage and the long-term challenge ahead. These rolling blackouts are a critical, short-term strategy to manage demand and prevent wider system failure. The government and energy firms are forced to balance immediate crisis management with planning for a reconstruction effort that will demand massive international investment and years to complete.
