100 Settlements Plunged Into Darkness After 51 Attacks Target Chernihiv Region.
Attacks on Chernihiv Region, January 19
According to TSN.ua: On January 19, Russian forces launched 51 separate attacks against the Chernihiv region, severely disrupting its power supply. The assaults included drone strikes, with 'Geran' (Shahed) drones targeting the Semenivka and Kulykivka communities, and a repeat strike hitting the Kholmynia community. In a village within the Snovsk community, 'Lancet' drones struck a private house. In total, authorities recorded 51 separate artillery or drone attacks and 80 explosions.
Damage to Energy Infrastructure
Energy facilities in northern Chernihiv region were damaged, cutting off electricity to approximately 100 settlements across the Kholmynia, Novhorod-Siverskyi, Mena, and Koriukivka communities. Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, described the power situation in the north of the region as extremely difficult. The prolonged duration and high intensity of the shelling are hampering repair efforts and creating severe hardships for local residents. These attacks are part of a broader pattern of Russian strikes targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, a tactic that has been widely condemned.
These strikes represent a continued escalation of the conflict in northern Ukraine, inflicting serious damage to infrastructure and complicating life for the civilian population. The electricity crisis, in particular, underscores the urgent need for measures to ensure security and stability in the region, as restoring power grids requires significant time and resources.
